VIN input and lookup results

You can use this service without creating an account or signing in. The site does not operate a database of VIN search histories. VIN input and results are held in the current page’s browser state while you use the decoder.

The application does not place your VIN in the site’s page URL, localStorage, Google Analytics events, or advertising events. It does not create an indexable result page for your VIN. This site does not install Google Analytics. Clearing the input clears the displayed lookup; it does not delete records held by an external provider.

Information sent to public data providers

When you request a decode, your browser sends the VIN directly to NHTSA vPIC. A separate WMI request may send the manufacturer-identification characters. Where available, the decoded make, model, and model year are used to request related NHTSA recall and safety data and FuelEconomy.gov options. Selected source vehicle identifiers may be sent to retrieve ratings or fuel economy details.

These providers receive the information in the request and ordinary connection data, such as your IP address and browser headers. Although the VIN is not added to this site’s page URL, it is part of the request to the VIN decoding API and may be logged by that provider. Their retention practices and privacy policies apply to those requests.

Hosting and technical information

The site is delivered through a hosting provider. Like other web services, its delivery and security systems may process request information such as IP addresses, requested site pages, browser information, and timestamps. This is different from a VIN search-history database: the decoder does not submit the VIN to a 4ool application server.

Your browser and network may also keep their own technical records, depending on their settings. The site cannot control the records kept by your browser, internet provider, or the public API services.

Google advertising and cookies

This site uses Google AdSense. Google and other advertising vendors may use cookies and similar technologies to serve, measure, and personalize ads based on visits to this and other websites. Google’s advertising cookies can enable Google and its partners to tailor advertising using those visits. Other vendors or networks serving ads may also set cookies.

Ad services may receive connection and device information when their resources load. The application does not deliberately send your entered VIN to Google as an ad parameter or event. Advertising providers process information under their own policies and any applicable consent choices.

Your privacy choices

You can manage Google ad personalization in My Ad Center and use the industry opt-out page below for participating advertising vendors. Opting out of personalized advertising does not necessarily remove all advertising. Browser settings also let you block or delete cookies; those choices may affect third-party services.

Where a privacy or consent message is presented, use its controls to express or change the choices it offers. Do not include owner details or other personal information in the VIN field.

Changes to this policy

This policy may be updated as the service or its data handling changes. The update date at the top identifies the current version. Review the policies of external services separately, because they are responsible for their own processing.
